This online course will support you in developing your subject specific ‘eye' so that you are better able to evaluate the effectiveness of mathematics within the curriculum in your school, whether you are preparing for a graded or ungraded inspection.

In this online session, we will look at fractions, decimals and percentages in more depth, consider the progression, the misconceptions pupils have, as well as strategies for addressing these. We will specifically consider why pupils find fractions difficult and will address connections by approaching fractions, decimals and percentages as three interconnected topics.

This online briefing session will give teachers the confidence to prepare for and administer the multiplication tables check. We will consider appropriate adjustments so that all children can achieve their best as well as sharing ideas and strategies for strengthening this element of the Year 4 mathematics curriculum.

This online course is aimed at teachers and TAs and will discuss the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach and why it is so important for teachers to use manipulatives in the classroom at both KS1 and KS2.

We will explore how different manipulatives (Numicon, Multilink cubes, counters, bead strings, Cuisenaire rods, counting sticks, place value cards, hundred squares, digit cards, dice, dominoes) can support conceptual understanding in the primary classroom as well as being developed to be used as a reasoning tool.
